Designers including aspects of the Cybernetic Punk- Jean Paul Gaultier Fall Couture 2009
Gaultiers Fall 2009 collection obviously contained the signiture strutting arragont attitude of the house, the outlandish use of textures and and shapes around the curves around the female figure showed the grace and self confidence of the Gaultier girl. The range of looks from feminine dresses to highly corseted and androgenous coats all had some reflection of being inspired by sci-fi. Looks Similar to those in games can also be found in online games female characters for example often have vibrant hair colour and over exaggerated colour blocked make-up. The use of man made materials combined with fur, leather, velvet and the incredible workman ship in the highly tailored figure hugging garments create this fantasy woman, each model looked like she had her own character personality and role like those in online games such as world of warcraft. A link between the animal imagery often shown in this type of game and use of feathers and animal prints in this collection can too be made, the wildness and rich tonal quality is further seen in the digital art online. Overall the ‘i run this town’ deameanor displayed in this haute couture collection by Gaultier is one of the most significant attributes of all the characters found in online games.
Gareth Pugh Fall 2006/2008
Gareth Pugh presents a futuristic warrior in many of his collections, using cut defined lines through talering and panelling in most of his gaments. Against a monotone background the sharp symettrical garments in all black enhanced the stylized look of the model on the catwalk. From head to toe the geometric shapes and leather panelling were a key feature in Pugh’s collection even shown in his boots, this type of masquline flair is feautured in the looks of many evil characters in starcraft and world of warcraft. Soldiers and warriors are often the main characters in many online games Pugh’s use of helmets, hood and metalics mimicks the armour of japanese samourise this asain inspiration is also found in almost all online games because many of them started and are most popular in countries like Japan. Generally speaking the unique goth styling of Garthes pughs garments also exhibits many gamers choice of clothing, during my research i have found mild goth attitudes and lifestyles are often found in the gaming community such as in there taste in heavy metal music. The classic Pugh graphic styling and garment construction shown in so many of his collections has an obvious connection with japanese anime and traditional asian imagery which has always been one of the main inspirations in gaming design since its beginings.
Givenchy Spring/Summer 2011
Givenchy’s 2011 couture collection combined the elegance of Asian gowns and prints with a fifth element twist in headwear. The contrast of almost primary colours against a pure white in simplified shapes is also found in many costumes the characters in Final Fantasy and Star Craft. The use of Asian models and long straight hair creates this severe and graphic quality like the girls are from a fantasy world with; perfect posture, hair, faces, make-up and obviously clothing. Escapsism is always one of the aims of couture collections, however here Givenchy balances using contemporary materials like plastic and some of the most ancient fabrics in the the silk dresses. This aspect can be seen in older online games as well as in console games such as Tekken however in newer games as they are more and more updated the clothes and styling are becoming more futuristic and complex so this style will soon not be so apprent in most gaming imagery.

Cybernetic Punks
This subculture is made up of a community of gamers who play online with friends they may know in real life as well as new ones made on the game. World of warcraft is one of the best known role play games on which the player develops a character who then defeat other gamers to work through levels.
A highly addictive habit online gaming is developing and changing on a daily basis, with new games and graphics keep the players hooked spending excessive amounts of time on them. The gamers lives begin to revolve around getting onto new levels. However, one of the most interesting characterists in this subculture is that there lifestyles away from the computer differ quite alot, meeting online means they come from differant backgrounds then these differances create interesting discussions within the group.
The main games played by most of these gamers are Starcraft, TERA, Freefall and Starwars. These are real-time strategy games in which many of the story lines, such as in starcraft, are adapted and expanded from novels like Starcraft: Brood war.
As most 'socialising' within the group happens online there isn't a set fashion or trend to the clothing worn by the members, however websites have developed ranges of t-shirts and basic clothing which members can buy and indentify with.
Listening to mostly heavy metal and classic rock music the soundtracks from the games also become part of the players musical taste. One of the users comment on this video outlines his passion for the music, ' OH HOLY GLORIOUS MOTHER MARY IN A PIZZA BOX!! AND I
THOUGH THAT NUMBER 5 WAS GOOD! THIS IS AWESOME SO FREAKING GREAT! *man tear*' mat2th 3 days ago
With new role play games being realised during 2011 this group will only grow and branch off depending on there specialism and console. This sub-culture is all about keeping up-to-date and getting with the next new phenomina, sales for the top games being released soon including Crysis 2 and Mass Effect 3 are in the millions so the watching how this culture changes over time should be interesting
